Advocating for Children and Youth Development

Welcome to Do The Write Thing! Do The Write Thing Foundation of DC (EIN 27-2171541) is incorporated as a nonprofit in the District and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS (effective April 5, 2010). The mission of Do The Write Thing (DTWT) is to use a whole-child approach to promote the long-term development and success of children and youth across multiple developmental domains, including social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Accomplishments

Do The Write Thing is a vetted out-of-school time (OST) provider for the D.C. Public Schools and is listed in the 2022-2025 Catalogue For Philanthropy (online) as one of the best nonprofits in the region.

In January 2018, DC At-Large Council Member Anita Bonds awarded a Community Cornerstone Award to DTWT's Executive Director for work with youth in Wards 7 and 8.

DTWT was featured in an August 14, 2020 (AFRO Newspaper) article on its Virtual Town Hall on the intersecting dynamics of COVID-19, the death of George Floyd, and racism. Mayor Muriel Bowser was the featured guest and Former First Lady Cora Master’s-Barry was one of the panelists.

DTWT youth has published twelve books of poetry and were invited to sign copies of their book in 2019 (for the ninth consecutive year) at the Authors Pavilion during the prestigious Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference at the D.C. Convention Center.
