What IS The TEEN New Deal?

Beginning in 2021, Do The Write Thing of DC (DTWT) has been operating a youth advocacy program in which students examine the components of advocacy, how various social issues affect our communities, and prepare for various events to address these issues and elevate their voices.

DTWT introduced our own advocacy curriculum called the “TEEN New Deal” which includes three components/solutions – nationwide student pay, student government, and student media. Students at Kelly Miller Middle School and Ballou High School have been after
school participants in the program as well as youth trainees participating in Washington DC’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP).

America’s 250th anniversary is fast approaching (July 4th 2026)! To commemorate the occasion, DTWT’s youth advocacy program is ramping up the pace as we elevate the youth voice to promote the idea of the TEEN New Deal as the perfect gift for our nation. Our TND youth advocacy program plans to incorporate more media coverage and increase our weekly social media presence by offering our after-school participants incentives to compete in and complete various video challenges. So, stay tuned… you might want to get in on the action!

Now… meet some of our TEEN New Deal Youth Ambassadors below! These students are all
about their coin, AND their communities. They have studied the TND curriculum, attended our
events (online and/or in-person), they have referred guests to our events also, and they have
even been tested on their knowledge of the TEEN New Deal concept. These youth are serious
about their futures, and the future or our country!
